A quote I've always enjoyed from Michelle Obama:

“Now I think it’s one of the most useless questions an adult can ask a child—What do you want to be when you grow up? As if growing up is finite. As if at some point you become something and that’s the end.

For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end.”

Cities aren't much different than we are, as we like to say, change is the only certainty in life. In "becoming" we bring along some things and leave behind others. But we never stop arriving.

But we need both roots and wings. Otherwise the idea of "becoming" can end up skewed, like Dollarhyde in Red Dragon.

I'm still figuring out what I want to be when I grow up 😂 Some of it is stuff I've brought with from 40 years ago, still hanging around as part of who I am. But it still evolves.
